A Tribute to Our Founder

Tom Gilson passed into eternity on November 9, 2024. A warrior to the end, Tom gave a lecture on his book, Too Good To Be Falsejust a week before he died. He was animated, funny, and clear-thinking that day. It’s hard to believe he was gone just a week later. You can read his official obituary here: Obituary of Thomas Gilson

Tom Gilson is the reason the Apologetics Fellowship exists. He could never have known it would be the final fruit of a ministry that began in 1979. Tom spent most of those years with Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) and, more recently, in leadership with the campus apologetics ministry Ratio Christi, as well as serving as a senior editor with The Stream. In 2013, he also founded and led, for two years, the membership-by-invitation Apologetics Leadership Group for national-level writers, speakers, and scholars.

Tom has written or edited six books, including the very positively reviewed Too Good to be False: How Jesus’ Incomparable Character Reveals His Reality, as well asA Christian Mind: Thoughts on Life and Truth in Jesus Christ,” andCritical Conversations: A Christian Parents’ Guide to Discussing Homosexuality with Teens.”

Since 2004, he has blogged at Thinking Christian and has also been a featured columnist and essayist at BreakPoint, First Things, and The Stream.

Tom’s passion for Christian apologetics as a ministry was infectious. It lives on in his family, his legacy, and with all of us who called him a friend. Tom dreamed of having a group like the Apologetics Fellowship for many years. It is, and always will be, an outgrowth of his passion for equipping apologists as servants to pastors and to the body of Christ.

We at the Apologetics Fellowship will do our best to honor his vision for what an apologetics ministry should be in the years ahead.
